Now hold on doc! I thought being healthy was not about just losing weight?!
That is correct, healthy weight is not just about a number on a scale! However, maintaining a healthy weight is a crucial part of being healthy, with a proper balance of body fat, and lean muscle! Weight loss is something that many people struggle with, and with all of the fad diets and pyramid-scheme "nutrition" companies out there, how do people manage to lose weight in a healthy way?!
The answer is, it is not just that simple. There are many steps to proper weight loss, including eating the proper foods, eating the proper amount of foods, foods to limit, foods to avoid completely, when we eat these foods, when do we not want to eat, what to stay away from when you have a late night craving, exercise, what kind of exercise, sleep habits, hydration, supplementation, yada, yada, yada!
Bottom line, is that anything worth doing is going to take time. We can get caught up in the "lose 21 pounds in 21 days" hype, but what benefit does crash dieting and over-working ourselves for 3 weeks have long term on our health? The answer is it does not help, as many people just regain the weight very quickly, and even gain a few extra pounds. Health is a journey, not a destination. Its not about getting the 10 pounds off, its about changing our lifestyle so that losing weight becomes a secondary benefit to overall health. And think, if you lost just 4 pounds a month, would that make you happy? At first glance, many people say no, as they have a friend who lost 20 pounds with the new "Herba-Care" 23 day challenge non-sense! But if you lost 4 pounds a month, over the course of 6 months, or 12 months, in a way that facilitates optimal health and function of your body, you will not only lose weight, but also promote health and wellness throughout your entire body, and improve your life!
Weight loss can be a struggle for many of us in the real world, but having a plan with accountability is the best way to make sure you stay on course. Stop talking about it, and do it!
